Anime Roundtable v2.0 #58 – January 8 2022: A Big Bang to Start the New Year

We settle into 2022 by talking about how some 2021 stories might shape it

8:23 – We look at the acquisitions of Sentai and Digital Media Rights (Retrocrush, Asiancrush) by AMC Networks and Cinedigm respectively. So we look at what’s in it for each of the parties involved

Then we start the Bullets Segment for 2022

47:10 – Viz and Shuesha announced they won’t publish a digital English version of chapter 74 of the Ayakashi Triangle manga. So let’s talk about its content. And don’t worry, you can probably find the chapter anyway…as Kevin did

58:04 – More Urusei Yatsura anime. So we share a few memories of some of fandom’s earlier days and wonder what has happened to past UY media. Then we look at the present and what will be of the present UY media. And the renasance of some writers in recent years

Then we go into some Netflix futures

1:09:21 – In light of the end of its anime in a few weeks, a live action version of Maiko-san Chi no Makani-san is now set to premier on the streaming service later this year. We explain why this is an excellent fit for Netflix, and for fans of another show there

1:16:32 – Netflix is looking to develop an anime version of Scott Pilgram. So we look at it in terms of some of the renewed interest in the title

1:24:03 – Some birthday and get well wishes as we do a local COVID update

1:29:50 – So how are we spending the rest of our weekends? Probably not at the movie theatres. Streaming though?
