Episode 50 later this week…maybe

And almost right on cue after taping the 50th episode with both Adam and Neil…I need a few days to both recover AND decide what to do with what was recorded. Because of that, the episode won’t come on for at least a few days. If you were at the actual recording of the episode at Anime North on Saturday night, you’ll know what I mean.

Anyway, I have to continue recovering…

That was a great show, but a bit crazy. I imagine the editing would take awhile:P. And the free pokey was cool to boot.

Oh boy, I do hope you release it in full, I had to leave midway through and would love to hear what else went on in this episode!

As far as I’m aware, most of it was not recorded. My video feed kept crashing, so no dice there. You’ll just have to petition Mike to do more live shows 😉

I can’t wait to hear this one. Hope you recover soon. 🙂

@Adam: Ha, that could be some sort of gimmick, the stuff you don’t hear on the radio, but that you can see only live… haha

@Adam: There was still some pretty crazy stuff recorded that night. But there was really only one actual topic for the episode (the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure thing) and you guys managed to stay on that for some time after Mike introduced it. It seems to me that there was a lot of energy and nowhere for it to go. Oh, and there was the whole “impressions of AN” thing too but how long could one really speak on that topic?

Too bad about the video feed. But the format of the show doesn’t seem particularly well-suited to being recorded in front of a live audience, I think.

@Enrico: That was more or less my opinion of the night as well. Neil and I were really on our game, and we rambled on for quite some time. However, without Mike and James in the right mode to direct us vaguely toward some semblance of a topic, it doesn’t quite work. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great fun, especially in front of an audience, but it isn’t what makes the show what it is.

I think we would do well to do the occasional live show, as people do seem to enjoy it. But, by and large, the basement office feel works out best.

@Adam: I think that, by and large, people seem to enjoy interacting with the show as it’s being recorded. Since the microphones don’t pick up the audience very well (being unidirectional and all), responding to audience comments/questions might sometimes seem random to listeners who weren’t present at the recording. The video might catch it, but that has been woefully absent for the last few episodes.

There are a few strategies to deal with this. You can choose not to acknowledge or allow audience comments/questions during recording. You can paraphrase audience contributions (i.e. “a listener just mentioned/asked…”). You can give a microphone to the audience for comments/questions but the logistics of that would probably be a nightmare and it might kill the flow of the show.

And yeah, I do like the basement office. I liked recording there and I liked watching the show there. =)
